Root Canals
What Is Root Canal Treatment?
Our teeth are made up of four different types of tissue: pulp, dentin, enamel & cementum. The pulp is at the center of the tooth and consists of nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue. These tissues within the pulp are what nourishes the tooth and keeps it alive and healthy.
When a cavity (hole) appears in our tooth, bacteria will start to enter. If left untreated, bacteria can infect the pulp (center) of the tooth and you will start to notice extreme sensitivity and pain.
In a bid to save the tooth, root canal treatment is required to clean out the bacteria and the infected pulp. The inside of the tooth is then prepared to allow for a root filling which will stop any further bacteria from entering the tooth.
Are Root Canal Treatments Always Successful?
Unfortunately root canal treatments do not have a 100% success rate. As a clinic, we always want to save and look after your natural teeth for as long as possible. Before any treatment commences, we will always explore and discuss all suitable options with you.
So you can make the best informed decision for your needs.
In many cases, a root canal is the only way to preserve a tooth that would otherwise need to be removed.
Once the pulp becomes infected, the inflammation can spread beyond the root and begin affecting the surrounding bone and tissues, leading to swelling, abscesses, and more severe pain.
By removing the infected tissue and sealing the tooth from within, root canal treatment not only relieves discomfort but also helps maintain the natural structure of your smile.
Keeping your own tooth is almost always the healthiest long‑term option, as it supports normal chewing, protects neighbouring teeth, and prevents the need for more complex treatments such as implants or bridges.
If you’re experiencing any symptoms of dental discomfort or simply want to stay on top of your oral health, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
Booking your next appointment is quick and easy, and our team will always do their best to accommodate your schedule.
